Introduction
On February 21, 2010, WWE announced that it had terminated its contract with professional wrestler Carlito, real name Carlos Colón Jr. The release came as a surprise to many because Carlito had only been with the company for three years and was a former WWE United States and Intercontinental Champion. While the reason for the release has never been officially announced, there are several possible explanations.
Carlito’s WWE Debut
Carlito made his WWE debut on the November 7, 2004 episode of SmackDown!, defeating John Cena in a match to become the number one contender for the United States Championship. On November 21 at Survivor Series, Team Mysterio (Kofi Kingston, Rey Mysterio, Big Show, MVP and Jack Swagger) defeated Team Del Rio (Alberto Del Rio, Tyler Reks, Drew McIntyre, Kane andEdge) in a five-on-five elimination match. After the match, it was announced that Kingston had been fired from WWE. The following day on Twitter, it was revealed that WWE had released Carlito from his contract.
The Intercontinental Championship
